about

Glacial Plateau refers to the small town where I grew up in South Dakota in the early 50s through the late 60s. I think the town was over 1000 feet above sea level but looking out our front door one could see for miles as it was so flat. My childhood was not ideal and I couldn’t wait to get out of there which I finally did in Summer 1968 when my parents divorced. That place was however where I began my musical journey that continues to this day. Sometimes ya gotta go back to move forward.

In some ways this project ended up being a remembrance of my little brother Thomas John who only lived for 15 days in 1956. I was 3 and my sister was 1 1/2 and for a very long time we never even knew who Thomas John was or that he had ever existed. I ended up with a box of old 35mm slides my father had taken that went all the way back to 1959 that also informed my writing this past year. The images along with these songs for the most part came from that box.

The songs in this project led to the title after working on them for over a year that was filled with physical and emotional challenges for me. Nothing like stuff like that to remind one they’re just a speck in a huge universe and that the smallest things and strong relationships with those we love in the end truly are the most important.

As with my first album from 2018, I continue to collaborate both musically and production of my recorded music with Paul Curreri who continues to be brilliant in ways there really are no descriptions that are adequate. His wife Devon Sproule also continues to add vocal brilliance to most of my compositions and between them both, I’m humbled and grateful for their contributions that always make my songs soar.

The other musicians' contributions are epic and again took my songs to places I never imagined. They all shine out in my music and I remain in awe of all of them.
